Where does this go?
It’s summer! And here at M&M Elite Events that means one thing – it’s wedding season! Our team has been busy, busy, busy… but we still managed to fit in a (super-fun and vibrant) Summer 2015 Staff Photo Shoot.
We went with a laid back, picnic vibe for our shoot, complete with a gorgeous outdoor backdrop. Location was key–and we certainly found the perfect one. The James P. Kelleher Rose Garden in Boston gave just the right balance of natural elements and elegance. We laid a crisp white blanket, set the scene with some summer essentials (hello, bubbles!) and had ourselves a little party in the sun.
We were very fortunate to have our day captured by our rockin’ photographer Janisel Rosenthal. (Janisel has been in the photography game for a few years now and just recently made the big move to Boston.) She did an amazing job making us feel comfortable and helping bring out our inner models.

Our very own Myriam Michel and her hubby Donald Alexis are featured in the current (Fall/Winter 2015) issue of Boston Weddings Magazine captured by the fab team at BKB & Co.! The couple and their dapper son, Dario, celebrated with friends and family at the Seaport Boston Hotel with a reception and after-party honoring their Haitian heritage.
After thirteen years of romance, Myriam and Donald knew their wedding day was long overdue. With the responsibilities of raising one-year old Dario and managing busy careers—Donald heading up an affordable housing non-profit in Boston (CICD) and Myriam with client weddings lined up in her calendar—finding time was the biggest challenge. They settled on an intimate dinner-party that would bring together their closest friends and family.
Myriam and Donald wanted their ceremony to honor their family and Haitian heritage and chose to have it on Thanksgiving weekend. (…Because what other holiday screams “family” than Thanksgiving?) Myriam incorporated special elements and touches throughout their Big Day, like: starting the party via the invitation, through which guests chose the flavor of their own customized mini cheesecake (passed at the end of the night); having an in-the-round ceremony; Myriam’s veil being an heirloom piece hand-made by her mother; guests sipping rum-based mai tais and hurricanes during cocktail hour; and the night culminating with dinner and dancing in the Seaport Boston’s beautiful Lighthouse ballroom.
Myriam has a reputation for transforming spaces and her own wedding was no exception. With the help of Faith Chartrand (Floral Art Designs) her “Autumn in New England” vision for the room was brought to life—open canopies surrounded the dinner tables, unique vase centerpieces were filled with tea-lit willow branches, and lighting by DesignLight brought an intimate glow to the evening.
Following dinner, guests enjoyed Caribbean-inspired music and a rendition of Nat King Cole’s Unforgettable, sung by the father and sister of the bride. And the final cherry on top, everyone took a photo in M&M Elite Events’ signature “Selfie Station.”
“My three sisters and cousin were in my bridal party, and I decided to defer to them on choosing their bridesmaid dresses. They chose Badgley Mischka dresses from Rent the Runway, which brought a sparkle of gold to our ceremony, complimented the design and, most importantly, was affordable!
“Looking back on my wedding planning process, there are three points of advice I’d give to any couple planning a wedding:
- Budget – When it comes to budget, get a sense of what “real” things cost and decide what is important to you. For some it’s the dress, others the music, still others the food and beverage. Then setup a separate checking account for your wedding day costs (so those expenses don’t interfere with your daily living expenses).
- Breathe – Not everything will go as planned, ever! Take it from a planner (me!) who does this for a living. Even on my Big Day there were some hiccups. I read somewhere, “Everything will be perfect in an imperfect way” and I remember it always. Learn to let go and let that room create space for magic to happen.
- Time – Take the time to be a bride and a groom on your wedding day—hire a planner. That was my biggest regret. I even had a client’s wedding two weeks before mine. If you don’t have the budget for a planner for the full process, look into a partial or “month of” package. Or focus on where you’ll need the most (Design and Details or Logistics). On the day of the wedding, make sure you have fun! Live in the moment. At the end of the day, it goes by entirely too fast.

Myriam and Donald, congratulations from the whole team at M&M Elite Events!
We’re thrilled to announce our head-over-heels-in-love couple from November 2014, Shanna and Deshaun, has their storybook romance wedding featured in the current (Summer 2015) issue of The Knot! Their wedding shines across the pages of the magazine; we love seeing their elated faces against the gorgeous backdrop of the Roger Williams Park Botanical Center in Rhode Island.
After three years of trying to plan a wedding on their own, Shanna and Deshaun realized they needed a planner to keep their Big Day organized and on track. The M&M Elite Events team jumped in, providing the couple with peace of mind and guiding them through both the creative and design process to create their dream wedding.
The Color Scheme:
Shanna told The Knot, “Myriam’s suggestion of a burnt orange and midnight blue color scheme inspired the wedding’s design.”
The distinct pairing of these two colors for décor and accent pieces enlivened the neutral wood elements and concrete floors of the venue. Greenery from the botanical garden’s trees brought an element of nature to the ceremony and complimented the rustic and down-to-earth table settings (Floral Art Designs). Throw pillows atop shaggy ottomans (New England Country Rentals) offered another pop of color and bohemian atmosphere. Shanna told us after the wedding that she and Deshaun could not believe how we captured, then superseded their vision.
Myriam ensured the color scheme was prominently highlighted throughout the event to flatter the venue—without overwhelming it’s natural beauty—which is evident especially in the carousel photo (BKB & Co.) with the tones popping in the background. Shanna’s styling even matched without being overly obvious; her flowers (Floral Art Designs) capturing the orange and her eyes hinting at midnight blue.
The Bride’s Advice:
Planning wedding logistics on your own can be stressful enough, even before considering how to make décor and style match your vision. After her three-year-attempt to go it alone, Shanna says, “Invest in a great planner. It really makes or breaks the whole process. It surprised us the way the entire design came together and how amazingly smooth the wedding and reception went.”

Shanna and Deshaun, we know you will be sharing your deepest secrets, biggest fears, and corniest moments with one another for decades to come. We wish you a lifetime of happiness! (And know The Knot readers do too…)
Last month, we had the opportunity to complete a project that had been in the works for quite some time – our staff photo shoot! This had always been something we had planned on doing, but it all came down to timing – finding the time to plan and get everyone on our team together on the same day at the same time. The life of a planner can be crazy busy at times, so personal goals can often be placed on the back burner when putting your clients’ needs at the forefront. The perfect opportunity presented itself, however, when we began the process of revamping the M&M Elite Events brand as a whole. Our long awaited photo shoot fit in perfectly among all of the changes being made, so we got to planning!
After the long and chilly winter the Boston area had experienced, it was no trouble at all to imagine our warm, springy vision for the shoot. We began by creating a vision board that included light, pastel colors, floral accents and lots of sweet treats. Think tea party, but substitute the tea for champagne!
Once we had our ideal vision, the last piece of the puzzle was finding the perfect photographer to capture it – and we totally did! Leise Jones of Leise Jones Photography stepped right in and we could not have asked for more beautiful shots. Leise was able to capture every tiny detail of our setting and decor, not to mention the personalities of each of our team members.
In the end, the shoot went better than we could have imagined and it has paved the way for all future staff photo shoot endeavors. We plan to make these shoots seasonal and are looking forward to our summer shoot taking place in May.

We are so excited for Shanna and Deshaun’s wedding this Saturday at the Roger Williams Botanical Gardens in Rhode Island. After years of planning (3 years, literally…no seriously!), we are more than ready for the big day and can not wait to make Shanna and Deshaun’s dream day a reality. Just look at this beautiful couple!
Not only are we eager to celebrate with the happy couple, but we are thrilled to have the opportunity to work with the fantastic vendors that they have chosen. Including: New England Country Rentals, Floral Art Designs, DJ Rukus, Emery’s Catering, Lexus Studios, Sin Bakery and BKB Photo & Co. who we can also thank for the gorgeous engagement shots pictured above. The bridal party will be getting fixed up at the Courtyard Marriott Providence Warwick and will accompany the couple to their first look at the Carousel within the Botanical Gardens.
In just a few days, Shanna and Deshaun will say “I do!” and begin their happily ever after. Check back in next week to see how it all turns out! Can’t wait for the photos and videos!
